Separation anxiety in our pups is a common issue that many pet owners face. It can be ruff on both of you. But with the right approach and support, it can be managed effectively.

Why Do Dogs Experience Separation Anxiety?

Dogs are naturally social animals that love company. Being alone can be a bit ruff for them. Factors like changes in routine, moving to a new home, or the loss of a family member can contribute to separation anxiety. Even the pups who’ve always been calm can develop anxiety later in life.

But don't worry, we've got some pawsome tips to help you manage it!

Let's explore effective strategies to help your pup feel more secure when you're not around.

  1. Create a Safe Space: Make sure your pup has a comfy, secure spot where they feel safe when you're not around.

  2. Keep Departures and Arrivals Low-Key: Avoid making a big fuss when you leave or return home. A simple “See ya later, pup!” will do.

  3. Exercise Before You Leave: A tired pup is a happy pup!  Make sure they get plenty of exercise or you can even have a little training session before you go.

  4. Provide Mental Stimulation: Keep your pup entertained with puzzle toys, treat-dispensing toys, or even a piece of clothing with your scent on it.

  5. Practice Short Departures: Start by leaving your dog alone for just a few minutes, then gradually increase the time, with time you will notice your pup easing into this routine.

  6. Consider Professional Help: If your Pup’s separation anxiety is severe, consult a vet or we at Compawnion can help you get in touch with a professional trainer who can help you with the situation.
