Who can resist a creamy, cold treat on a hot summer day? As pet owners, sharing these moments with our pups is pure joy.

However, the ice creams we buy often contain ingredients unsuitable for dogs. That's where homemade, dog-safe and easy-to-make ice cream recipes shine , offering healthier alternatives that let our pups enjoy a cool treat worry-free.

Why Homemade Dog Safe Ice Cream?

Before we dive into recipes, let's understand why homemade is best for our dogs. Commercial ice creams may include toxic sweeteners like xylitol and have high sugar or dairy content that can upset your pet's stomach.

Making your own ice cream gives you control over ingredients, ensuring a safe and delicious treat tailored to your pup's needs and tastes. Without further ado, let’s dive into some of our favorite recipes!

1.Berrylicious Yogurt Delight

Berrylicious Yogurt Delight

These treats are all about summer vibes—a refreshing, creamy delight that pairs perfectly with the classic combo of strawberries and cream.

Whether your pup is chilling in the sun or just wants a cool, indulgent snack, they're a perfect pick-me-up for your pup! While most berries are mostly safe and you can alter the recipe, be sure not to use black berries as they are unsafe for dogs.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of strawberries

  • 1 cup of Greek or plain yoghurt

Method:

  1. Grab the strawberry by the leaves and dunk it into the yogurt, making sure it's fully dipped.

  2. Carefully place the strawberries upside-down on the wire rack.

  3. Follow the same steps with the remaining strawberries and place your wire rack ( a metal wire sheet)  into the freezer carefully.

  4. Once frozen, remove from freezer and repeat the process by dipping in yogurt for a thicker layer.

  5. Let them freeze for an extra hour, then cut off the leafs before serving.

( Pro tip - We keep the leaf tops till the end as it will be easier to hold the strawberries)

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cup of strawberries

  • 2 bananas

  • ½ cup coconut oil

  • Dog biscuits/ treats

  • A small cup of water

Method:

  1. Puree the strawberries and bananas until smooth in a blender, then gently warm the coconut oil until it melts.

  2. Mix your fruity blend and coconut oil until well combined. Aim for a consistency similar to soft ice cream, but if it's too thick, you can always add a small amount of water to thin it out.

  3. Pour the mixture into the paper cups and then seal them with plastic wrap.

  • Pro Tip: To make sure your dog biscuit stays in place while freezing, try this simple trick: grab a knife and carefully cut a hole in the center of the cling film. This will provide a stable base for your biscuit to stand upright as it freezes.

     5. Place them in the freezer and voila! It’s ready to be served!

Tips for Serving Dog Safe Ice Cream

  • Portion Control: Give ice cream as an occasional treat, not a regular meal replacement.
